Nate Way Stevens Point, WI Obituary : Long Time PaddleQuest Hero Has Passed Away
The PaddleQuest community and the city of Stevens Point mourn the loss of a foundational and beloved figure, Nate Way. A long-time volunteer and friend, Nate’s quiet dedication was the steady heartbeat of the adventure for nearly two decades.
His legacy began in 2003 as one of the event’s very first characters: The Floating Mystic. Armed with only a flute and perched in a child-sized raft, he became a magical, hidden surprise in the backwater bogs for questers to discover. His spirit of adaptation shone the following year when he traded his mystic robes for a welding helmet, transforming into one of the first heroes to offer crucial motorboat tows to weary canoers.

Through the years, Nate was often the unsung hero behind the scenes, the reliable volunteer who showed up for the random, essential tasks that make an event run. He was always willing to help with whatever was needed, his support as constant as the river’s flow. In recent years, he brought his dependable spirit to the fictional “HR” department of the event’s MagnaCorp storyline, adding another layer of warmth and humor to the PaddleQuest tapestry.
More than any role he played, Nate Way was a friend. His steadfast presence, gentle humor, and unwavering willingness to contribute will be profoundly missed. He embodied the true spirit of PaddleQuest: community, creativity, and quiet service. The river feels emptier without him.
